Project 33 Awarded Certificate of Appreciation!

>> Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Project 33 was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation yesterday by the Governor of Nevada!  It was in honor of the work we do for our community.  We were invited to the Nevada Capitol Building to receive our award and to take a private tour!  We were especially honored to receive our award in the Governor's office itself!

Thanks again to all the Project 33 volunteers who made this award possible, and especially to DeeDee for planting the seed that got it all started!

A Visit to the Nevada State Capitol!

Yesterday Project 33 was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Governor of Nevada in recognition of the work we do for the community!  The Governor's office invited us to come to the Capitol building to receive the award and get a private tour.

Here Ms. DeeDee talks to the Cadets on the steps of the Capitol Building:

Our tour guide, Ronald Roberts, was so nice and kept the children's attention the whole time.  First he led us into the main hall of the Capitol Building.

We were honored to go into rooms that are not usually opened to the public, the most exciting one being the Governor's office itself!

It's a tradition to put a penny in the Lincoln statue when you are in the Governor's office!

An insect paperweight in the Governor's office!

It was in the Governor's office that Project 33 was presented with the Certificate of Appreciation!

Then we continued our tour of the Capitol building.  A lot of the Capitol building is no longer used, serving instead as a museum for the public to tour where they used to house the different branches of State government.  Those are now in bigger buildings next door to the Capitol building, that we later got to see as well!

Ryan got to demonstrate how they used to send messages via telegraph!

They also had free books on the Political History of Nevada:

Our County flag!

The old Supreme Court:

We were invited into the Lieutenant Governor's office!  We were so lucky as it's not normally on tour!

In the Secretary of State's office, the Cadets got a kick out of a little trick Mr. Roberts played!  He asked each of them to look behind an old safe door and not say what they'd seen until everyone had had a chance!

And this is what we saw!

We headed outside to tour more buildings.  On our way we saw this statue of a minor.

Here is the current Nevada Supreme Court.  A bit bigger than the one room they used to use!

Our last stop was the current Legislature building! Our Cadets were so amazing and patient during the entire tour, and we were so proud of them for showing so much respect.

After our tour we headed to a park for a picnic.  Much to our surprise, Alyssa and Paige's dad, Josh,  surprised us with a delivery of ice cream from Model Dairy!!  Thanks Josh!

Congratulations to Project 33 for your Certificate of Appreciation!  Thank you for giving our children a chance to share in your award with our unforgettable tour of the Nevada State Capitol!
