August Outing: Nature Scavenger Hunt @ Rancho San Rafael!

>> Monday, August 16, 2010

For our August nature-themed outing, we all headed over to Rancho San Rafael to do a photo scavenger hunt!  The entire family was encouraged to come, and each family was given a list of items to find on our hunt.

One item on the list was a pond!

On a bridge, making a funny face!

A leaf, not green!

We also had to take a picture of a park ranger, who was very nice and more than willing to help!

Found a feather!

The one thing that proved very difficult to find was a ladybug, so there was a creative solution for that!

After our hunt we headed over to the playground area to have a picnic and play!

Thanks again to everyone for coming and making our first outing so much fun!

Our First Meeting! Nature Theme: All About Gardens!

>> Monday, August 9, 2010

We were all so excited to be (finally!) starting Cadets!  We've been planning it for so long and now the day to have our meeting was finally here!  Our first theme was our nature theme, and this year it was All About Gardens!  Amelia and Charlotte were our Host Cadets and were in charge of teaching us all about their theme.  Here they are holding up the poster they'd made to tell us all about gardens!

We began the meeting by getting into our Cadets Circle.  Here the Cadets received their bracelets or lanyards and shared a little bit about what they did this summer.   Each Cadet got a turn to talk, and we passed around the Talking Smurf so each Cadet knew who was the one allowed to talk at that time!

Next Amelia told us all about gardens.  She told us about what grows in a garden, what gardens need, what animals and insects are good for a garden, and which ones are pests.  It was very informative!

Next we headed down the the park to play a game!  We played "Who am I?" and each Cadet had a creature, plant, or object that belongs in a garden on a label on their back.  They had to ask "yes" or "no" answers to figure it out.

After that they organized a game themselves and played "Duck, Duck, Goose"!

It was a great first meeting!  We are really looking forward to our August Outing at Rancho San Rafael!

About Relay For Life

>> Tuesday, March 30, 2010

You've seen us promoting our Spaghetti Dinner a lot in the last couple of weeks, and may have noticed that it will be a fundraiser for Relay For Life.  Relay For Life is a fundraiser itself for the American Cancer Society.  On June 5th and 6th, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track at Bishop Manogue High School to raise money and promote cancer awareness. By coming to our Spaghetti Dinner, by joining or donating to our team, you will be a part of a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much from all walks of life.

Please come to our dinner, make a donation, or join our team and help us create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyones life.  You can join or donate now by clicking on the Relay logo on the right.  For tickets for our dinner, click the email button and send us your request.

Thank you!
